PADI IDC Staff instructor (IDCS)

Working alongside PADI Course Directors, a PADI Staff Instructor (IDCS) works in a very similar way to how Divemasters and Assistant Instructors work with PADI qualified instructors.

That is that you become heavily involved within planning, organising and managing courses that come under the IDC and Specialty course umbrellas.

As an IDCS you will also be qualified to independently perform sessions in which you can teach PADI AI's, and will be able to take part in teaching on PADI IDC's.

The IDCS course is a great way to get involved in teaching, and you will be able to teach others who wish to develop their own PADI diving skills with your in-depth knowledge.

The majority of dive centers requires this level of instructor certification, so it is an important part to consider if you are looking to follow an exciting career in diving.

As an IDC Staff Instructor you can:

Teach PADI Assistant Instructor courses
Help PADI Course Directors conduct the PADI Instructor Development Course
Help PADI Course Directors conduct instructor -level continuing education

Course prerequisites

Teaching status
PADI MSDT.

You must also

Be at least 18 years old.
Have Medical clearance, to show dive fitness signed by a physician, within the previous 12 months.

What will you do on the Course?

Two days of pre assessment with our PADI Course Director

Audit of an entire IDC over 12 days

Can attend the entire IE if time allows

During the pre assessment days, you will do Dive Theory Exam; Physics, Physiology, Equipment, General skills and Environment, and the Recreational Dive Planner and ERDP ML. After that you will take the PADI Standards Exam, which is an open book exam.

You will give an IDC Confined Water Presentation, conduct and be evaluated on the 20 skills of the PADI skill circuit and give a Prescriptive Teaching Classroom presentation.

The second part of the course will be where you sit in on an IDC and ensure you audit the whole PADI IDC. You will be reviewing and evaluating each candidate presentation along side the Course Director. At the same time as the candidates you will give an IDC Confined Water Presentation, conduct and be evaluated on the 20 skills of the PADI skill circuit and give a Prescriptive Teaching Classroom presentation.
